Lessons

Everyone needs a foundation

All lessons are done on a one-on-one basis in a western saddle, for individuals 8 years old and up. Each lesson is around 90 minutes long from start to finish. With my lesson program I wanted to really focus on the individual growth of the rider as well as their relationship with the horses in the program.
Our program will prioritize students wanting to lease a horse to facilitate long term riding goals however single lessons without a lease can be accommodated depending on availability. Lesson fees include a flat rate for the use of the horse as well as lessons so that the student can build a relationship with the horse and not bounce around from horse to horse. By doing this my students will learn what it really means to ride horses from daily care, body language, what equipment we use and why we use it as well as the emotional connection that only these sentient creatures can provide.
Using techniques adopted from natural horsemanship, reining, and positive reinforcement/clicker training (+R) my goal is to build the foundation of the rider to include the fundamentals of groundwork, building a bond with your horse before getting into the saddle, and, of course riding. As l students graduate my program I want each them to be able to take the foundation they’ve learned and excel wherever they go next.

Groundwork and +R

The basis of all horsemanship begins with a foundation. Starting with groundwork we will learn the mechanics of the horse and how to pick up on body language, as well as proper grooming techniques and tacking up. Once the rider has shown they are comfortable around the horses on the ground then we will move to the riding aspect. Not all people want to ride and that’s OK we are happy to cater to your needs.

Riding Lessons

In these lessons the rider will learn the basics  of walk, trot, canter as well as proper body placement for themselves and the horse. Depending on the riders comfort level, we start our riding lessons on a long line so that the rider can learn the feel of the horse and what to expect. From there we make sure the rider learns the importance of safety under saddle and what to do in an emergency situation and then, the fun begins! Every lesson is tailored to the horse and rider, building on the skills from the last lesson.
